Early English Text Society Publications

Location: Cabinet Z-5 through Z-7 in the Xerox Room.

Scope: Founded by F. J. Furnivall in 1864, this society’s purpose was to bring the mass of early English literature within the reach of students and to provide sound texts from which the New English Dictionary could quote. The Original Series includes Nos. 1-147, 159 and the Extra Series, Nos. 1-115, 125-6, and 185.

How to search the collection: All titles in this series can be found in the online catalog and also in the Multimedia Room microforms card catalog. The series statement (in parentheses in the cataloging record) contains the series number within the collection and whether the title is in the Original or Extra Series. Some titles carry two or more series numbers. These are filed numerically by the lowest number. If you wish a list of all titles in the microform set you can do a series search from the advanced search screen in iLink for “Early English Text Society” and limit the location to the Multimedia Collection.
