Procedures for Requesting Special Collections Materials

Use of manuscript materials.  If you wish to examine items in the collection, please list the series and box numbers of the containers you require.

Photocopying.  Should you wish to request photocopies, please consult a staff member about flagging items to be copied.  The existing order and arrangement of unbound materials must be maintained.

Photocopy orders cannot be filled the same day.  Large orders may require several weeks.

Publication.  Researchers assume full responsibility for complying with laws regulating copyright, literary property rights, and libel.

Permission to examine archival and manuscript materials does not constitute permission to publish.  Any publication of such materials beyond the limits of fair use requires specific prior written permission.  Requests for permission to publish should be addressed in writing to the Chair, Louisiana and Special Collections Department, Earl K. Long Library, University of New Orleans, New Orleans, La. 70148.  When permission to publish is granted, two copies of the publication will be requested for the library.

Proper acknowledgment of library materials must be made in any resulting writing or publications.  The correct form of citation for this collection is included in the summary pertaining to each collection.  Copies of scholarly publications based on research in Louisiana and Special Collections are welcomed.
