The faculty member will need to fill out and sign an application card at the Circulation desk indicating the UNO student's name and the term of coverage, not to exceed one year from the date of application. A "Note" is included on the faculty member's record showing the proxy name and expiration date. Proxy cards will have to be renewed upon expiration.

The application can also be obtained at the Circulation desk.

LALINC "Louisiana Academic Library Information Network Consortium" Borrowers

This reciprocal program allows certain borrowers in good standing at their institutions the right to check out
items at other participating college and university libraries throughout Louisiana. The list of participating
Louisiana Academic Libraries, and the level of access they allow, can be viewed at this chart (PDF).

  • UNO faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduates (with permission from the Honors
Department) who wish to borrow books from other institutions must first fill out a yellow information
card at our Public Services Desk on the first floor of the UNO library. Staff will then issue our patron a LALINC card with their name, university ID number, and the expiration date.
  • The expiration date for students and staff will be at the end of the semester. Faculty will be given an annual expiration date, ending in the spring semester.
  • Patrons must present this card at the participating library whenever the patron wishes to check out
items. Program participants are expected to abide by the lending institution's guidelines, and privileges
may be canceled at the lending institution's request for noncompliance. If you are traveling some distance, it is best to contact that library beforehand to inquire about any special requirements.

Faculty, staff, and graduate students from other participating institutions may check out books from UNO's
library after first obtaining a similar LALINC card from their home library (with a valid expiration date), and by showing it, along with a school photo ID, at our Public Services Desk. Guest borrowers will be asked to fill out a brief information card with necessary contact information, and our staff will then issue that patron a special borrowers card. LALINC users can check out up to 120 items at a time for three weeks with one renewal. Remote access to the library's databases and electronic resources is not available to LALINC users.

Special Borrowers

While Special Borrowers are allowed access to the library's online resources in the building, these resources are not available remotely.

Books will not be held for Special Borrower's who have not been issues a library card.

Alumni: Upon presenting a current alumni membership card and a driver's license, UNO alumni may obtain borrowing privileges at the library. These privileges include borrowing five (5) items at a time for a three week period with one renewal. A white Special Borrower's card will need to be filled out at the Circulation desk. The Alumni membership must be kept current through the Alumni Association to retain library privileges.

Ben Franklin High School (Students and Faculty) must have a blue card issued and signed by the school
librarian to receive a UNO card. A library card is issued in the patron's name and is good for the school year. Patrons can check out five (5) books at a time for three weeks with one renewal.

Friends of the UNO library (for LA residents) should apply for membership through Library Administration during regular business hours, 8:00 - 4:30, Monday through Friday (504-280-6556). Friends can check out three (3) books for a three week period with one renewal with a refundable $100 deposit (separate from the membership fee). A white Special Borrower's card will be issued for an annual date due every year in October - you must renew your membership in the Friends of the Library to continue checking out materials. Circulation staff will confirm this with Library Administration before renewing circulation privileges.

IELP (Intensive English Language Program) students can check out three (3) books for a three week period with one renewal. We receive a list of student names from the Division of International Education, Metropolitan College (http://ielp.uno.edu) at the beginning of each session. Students will be informed by the program when library privileges are available. For information contact 280.5530 or ielp@uno.edu.
