Food and Drink Policy

PILOT PROGRAM -- FOOD IS ALLOWED ON THE FIRST FLOOR OF THE LIBRARY

(The pilot program temporarily replaces the first bullet point of the Library Food and Drink Policy)

The Earl K. Long Library has implemented a pilot program to allow food on the first floor. Food is banned on all other floors of the library.

Patrons must assume responsibility for cleaning up after themselves, so that the library will continue to extend this privilege. Trash must be thrown away and spills should be reported to library personnel as soon as possible.

The pilot program will run from March 4 through May 10, 2013.

If the pilot program is not successful, the no food policy will be reinstated.

LIBRARY FOOD AND DRINK POLICY (WILL BE MODIFIED IF THE PILOT PROJECT IS SUCCESSFUL)

Consumption of food and drink in the library can damage books and computers, and the refuse left behind attracts roaches, ants and other insects. We ask your assistance in helping us protect the library's resources
by observing these guidelines:

  • Eating is allowed only in the Java City coffeeshop and 1st floor snack lounge at the south end of the library.
  • No food is allowed on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors including lobby areas.
  • Please clean up after yourself. Throw away trash and food wrappers and drink containers.
  • Drinks with lids -- bottles with screw tops and any type of cup with a lid -- are allowed anywhere in the library except Louisiana and Special Collections.

Library patrons who do not observe these guidelines will be asked to leave the building or to go to the
designated food area.

NO FAULT SPILL POLICY

Accidents happen. If you spill your drink, please notify the reference or the circulation desk immediately.

Spills that are cleaned up quickly are less likely to leave a stain.
