To strengthen efforts to preserve unique and valuable collections and to provide access to them for researchers and community partners, the library proposes to develop a center for business archives. From a nucleus that includes the K & B Archives, Krauss Department Store Archives, and the Higgins Industries plans for the landing craft that Dwight D. Eisenhower credited with winning World War II for the Allies, holdings will expand to include the records of many area businesses.
- Gifts of appropriate collections will strengthen the library’s holdings and ensure the ongoing survival of business records.
- Materials already at the library require proper housing. The Higgins Industries Collection, consisting as it does of hundreds of drawings for boats and other vessels and vehicles constructed by Higgins, should be stored in archivally safe boxes specially constructed for roll storage. Contributions toward the purchase of such boxes are welcomed.
