How
Do I Find Magazine & Journal Articles?
To find articles from magazines or journals the best place to start is with the library's electronic databases. The library subscribes to over 100 databases that allow you to search for journal, newspaper or magazine articles online. Some of these databases merely provide references (citations) to articles, in which case you will have to track down the print version of the article in the library (using the Library's Online Catalog or E-Journal List to search for the journal/magazine title and issue). Sometimes an abstract (summary) of an article is available within the database, and in some cases the complete or full-text of the article may be available online. The full-text of an article online will have the same content as its print counterpart. The Databases by Subject page provides a list of broad subject categories for you to choose among. Once you choose a category you will get a list of appropriate databases to search for articles on that topic. You will also get a short description of each database and what types of sources you can expect to find in each one. If your instructor told you to use a specific database then use the Databases by Title page to find it. If you have any questions about how to search a database or which database to use for your topic, please stop by, call or email the Reference desk. (504) 280-6549. |
