Directories list companies’ addresses, phone numbers and officers and often index companies by industry, main products or geographic location. Some may include listings of affiliates, subsidiaries or divisions.
Profiles and Company Histories

- Value Line Investment Survey Ref HG 4501 .V26, or ask at the reference desk for a password to access this product online. The most recent paper copies of the Value Line Investment Survey are kept behind the public service desk.
- Mergent Online Includes histories, mergers, subsidiaries, key employee biographies, financials, links to company websites and more.
- Lexis-Nexis Academic Click on “Business” in the left column, then on “Business Profiles”. Enter the name of the company of interest in the right search box space, and then go down to “Source”. A number of sources are listed here, including Hoover Company Reports, International Company Reports, S & P Corporate Descriptions, U.S. Private Companies and U.S. Public Companies.
- Business Source Premier/Business Source Complete
Provides company profiles reported by Datamonitor in a separate part of the database. Includes overview, history, key employees, top competitors, major products and services, subsidiaries and news.

Select Business News, then “Mergers and Acquisitions”. You may limit your searches to “Mergerstat Review” (in the “search this publication” search box)
Subsidiaries
- Mergent Online
Search a company name (or ticker, etc.) and go to the report page for the company. A banner at the top of the page offers “Subsidiaries” along with other data
Bankruptcies
- Lexis Nexis Academic
Click on “Business” in the left column, then select “Company Profiles”. From the “Source” pull-down menu, select “Bankruptcies”. You can use the Company Name search box to look for a particular company

This site includes a large subscriber portion but a lot of information is free, including data on major bankruptcies
- Internet Bankruptcy Library
This site also has a great deal of free information on major bankruptcy cases, and other relevant news.
- U.S. Courts Bankruptcy Statistics
This site provides bankruptcy filing statistics quarterly (by calendar and fiscal year), and for twelve month periods ending in March and June.

See “Company Financial Reports” and “SEC Filings and Reports”. Information in Proxy Statements, 10-Ks and other SEC documents are included from 1987 to the present for U.S. companies; some international companies are included. There is also information from commercial sources, such as Disclosure, Worldscope and Hoover’s Company Reports.

Includes information on public and private U.S. companies. Also includes PDF tearsheets from the Handbook of Common Stocks and Handbook of NASDAQ Stocks. To search and compare financial information on companies, use the Advanced Search, choose a database to search from Section 1, and then, “Financials” from Section 2. Has separate EDGAR (SEC) search pages.
