Historical Note
The Greater New Orleans A.F.L. - C.I.O.,
an association of various union locals, involved itself in political activities
in supporting various locals with strikes and collective bargaining, in civic
and social programs and in promoting the interests of organized labor with
state and governments.
H.R.D.I. is an independent agency
sharing offices with the Greater New Orleans A.F.L. - C.I.O. and is funded by
the United States Department of Labor.
It provides technical assistance to unions and local and state bodies in
the development of manpower programs.
C.O.P.E. is the political arm of the
A.F.L. - C.I.O. and endorses candidates with records favorable to organized
labor.
Note: In most instances, the file titles are given
by the Greater New Orleans A.F.L. - C.I.O. were
retained. However, when no titles
existed, they were assigned based upon the contents of the file folders. The series headings (e.g., Candidate files,
Election files, etc.) were assigned to facilitate organization.
