Biographical Note



            A black Creole born in 1829, Edmond Dédé began his musical studies in his native New Orleans.  In 1857 he traveled to Europe and continued his education at the Paris Conservatory of Music.  Dédé later served as director of the Alcazar Orchestra in Bordeaux.  In 1893 he returned to New Orleans to give several concerts.  He died in Paris in 1903.
