Through the combined efforts of the New Orleans Association of Commerce and several private local service agencies, the Central Council of Social Agencies was organized in 1921 to provide uniform standards and practices that would, in turn, result in greater cooperation among its member agencies. During its existence (1921-1973), the Council underwent several changes in organization and in name. Beginning in 1924, it was listed in reports and in correspondence as the Central Council of Social Agencies and as the Council of Social Agencies. In 1958 the name was changed to Social Welfare Planning Council and in 1971 to Community Services Council, Inc. Materials in the collection have been placed in series under the existing agency name when the documents were generated. Separate series have been created for member agencies and subject files.

A non-profit, community-oriented gallery, its objective was to foster contemporary art in New Orleans and to make other cities aware of New Orleans as a creative art and cultural center. The gallery displayed and made available for purchase the works of its permanent exhibiting artists. In addition, it exhibited the works of guest artists, student artists, and artists of national and international renown. Financial difficulties forced the Gallery to close in 1972.

MSS 106 - Supreme Court of Louisiana Historical Archives
The Archives of the Supreme Court of Louisiana consist of manuscript files of cases appealed from lower state courts to the Supreme Court of Louisiana and bound volumes of Court records pertaining to the dockets and minutes of court sessions. Case files range in volume from several pages to thousands of pages. Rules required that the Court be provided with a complete transcript of lower court files and evidence; thus the case files include maps, surveys, printed briefs, and a host of other documentation.

Minutes of an association of the Carrollton area volunteer fire companies. Included are treasurers' and miscellaneous reports. Broadsides and printed materials which have been pasted on pages of the volume include election ballot tickets for the 17th ward of New Orleans, a topographical map of New Orleans (1887), a five-year contract between the association and the City of New Orleans (1887-1891), and a copy of the association's constitution. An entry for October 6, 1888, notes a name change from Firemen's Charitable Association of the Seventh District to Firemen's Association of the Seventh District.

A 29-page scrapbook/diary containing photographs and ephemera collected by an Evanston, Illinois group during a visit by train to the New Orleans Carnival of 1903. The New Orleans section includes brief references to Begu's Restaurant, Fabacher's Restaurant, Christ Church, Metairie Cemetery, St. Roch Cemetery, Tulane University,the French Opera, the U.S. Mint, Young Men's Gymnastic Club, U.S. and French battleships in port, Royal Street, the French Market, and the Rex and Proteus parades. While the scrapbook has no single author, several of the entries are signed by individuals within the group. Two of the more prominent among these were an Irving Telling and Willie Grandon; thus the title, Telling - Grandon.

The collection consists primarily of bound ledgers and account books of various types, created in the normal course of business of a prominent New Orleans funeral home. Flooding that occurred in association with Hurricane Katrina (2005) destroyed other archival records, and many gaps exist. No other records are known to survive. Also present are a small quantity of records of the funeral home operated by the Joseph Laughlin Co., and of the Gulf States Life Insurance Co., the latter pertaining to burial policies.
